The Owl view

Three folios can still be one concentrated bet. The X-ray consolidates disclosed positions by the money allocated and measures pairwise overlap as the sum of the lower weight in every common security.

Method, not magic

If Fund A holds a company at 8% and Fund B at 5%, that company contributes 5 percentage points to pairwise overlap. The consolidated portfolio weights each fund by the entered investment amount before grouping securities and sectors.

  • Only the loaded disclosed positions are analysed; cash, derivatives, debt and omitted residual positions may matter.
  • Names must match across source files, so mergers, aliases or security renaming can reduce measured overlap.
  • Low stock overlap does not rule out common factor, sector, duration or liquidity risk.

Questions investors ask

Clear answers, including the inconvenient parts.

What is mutual fund portfolio overlap?

For two funds, this tool adds the lower disclosed weight for every security held by both. If one holds HDFC Bank at 8% and another at 5%, that stock contributes 5 percentage points of overlap.

How much overlap is high?

AssetsNest labels under 20% low, 20% to under 40% moderate and 40% or more high. These are transparent educational bands—not suitability verdicts.

Does owning more funds guarantee diversification?

No. Several funds can own many of the same large positions or follow the same category style. Consolidated exposure matters more than the count of folios.

Is the X-ray complete?

Only funds with a verified portfolio loaded into this snapshot are selectable. The coverage figure and disclosure date remain visible so a partial file is not mistaken for a full current portfolio.
